Home Remedies For Ear Infection Symptoms In Adults

Ear infections and their symptoms can come up sporadically and without warning in adults.  This could be caused by seasonal allergies, extreme changes in climate, or viral infections such as the common cold and the flu.  If you find yourself with an unexpected earache, here are a few home remedies you can apply to ensure your quick and timely recovery.

First and foremost: drink plenty of clear liquids.  Water, all-natural tea, an juices are a great way to help you immune system fight the bacterial or viral infection developing in your ear.  Keep drinking so that you are constantly flushing out your system and have a steady urination schedule.

Taking a one-a-day multivitamin will also help to boost your immune system.  Remember, the more vitamins and minerals you ingest, the healthier you will be.  Ear infections will deplete you immune system’s ability to fight off foreign organisms in your body, so taking vitamins and pushing liquids will replenish that which your body is using to fight your ear infection.  However, make sure you eat before taking a multi-vitamin, otherwise your body will reject the sudden rush of raw vitamins into your body, and you will most likely purge.

On the topic of food: make sure you eat.  One of your ear infections symptoms may be a loss of appetite.  In this case, it is imperative that you eat at least a little bit each day while at the same time hitting all the major food groups. Bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast are a great diet when you are feeling under the weather, as they are light, easy to digest, and provide you with the necessary vitamins and fibers that your body will be lacking.

The most common symptom of an ear infection in adults is pain.  There are a few ways to relieve your pain so you can get rest.  First, try your best to lye at an angle, keeping your head elevated.  Most often, ear infection symptoms will get worse when lying flat.  Applying a warm, damp washcloth over the ear has been known to reduce pain as well.  And, as always, over the counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen will help reduce your fever (if you have one) and relieve the pain in your ear.  Ear drops will also help to immediately relieve pain, but make sure to read the instructions, and don’t use more than the recommended daily dose.
